چکیده

Results obtained with a triple GEM detector operated in pure CF 4 with and without a reflective CsI photocathode are presented. The detector operates in a stable mode at gains up to 10 4. A deviation from exponential growth starts to develop when the total charge exceeds ∼ 4 × 10 6 e leading to gain saturation when the total charge is ∼ 2 × 10 7 e and making the structure relatively robust against discharges. No aging effects are observed in the GEM foils after a total accumulated charge of ∼ 10 mC/cm 2 at the anode. The ion back-flow current to the reflective photocathode is comparable to the electron current to the anode. However, no significant degradation of the CsI photocathode is observed for a total ion back-flow charge of ∼ 7 mC/cm 2 .

Construction and Expected Performance of the Hadron Blind Detector for the PHENIX Experiment at RHIC

A new Hadron Blind Detector (HBD) for electron identification in high density hadron environment has been installed in the PHENIX detector at RHIC in the fall of 2006. The HBD will identify low momentum electron-positron pairs to reduce the combinatorial background in the ee mass spectrum, mainly in the lowmass region below 1 GeV/c. The HBD is a windowless proximity-focusing Cherenkov detector ...

Performance of the triple-GEM detector with optimized 2-D readout in high intensity hadron beam. Abstract Multiple-GEM detectors are considered to be good candidates for tracking devices in experiments with high hadronic background. We present the results of the triple-GEM detectors beam test in a high intensity pion beam. The detectors had an optimized two-dimensional readout with minimized st...

Recent results from the PHENIX experiment at RHIC are presented. In this second part of the overview we discuss new results on direct photon production at low p T in Au+Au collisions and a systematic study of J/ψ production in various systems. Finally we summarize new results on the modification of jets in the medium. Recently PHENIX published measurements of direct photons in Au+Au collisions ...

Quality control and beam test of GEM detectors for future upgrades of the CMS muon high rate region at the LHC

Gas Electron Multipliers (GEM) are a proven position sensitive gas detector technology which nowadays is becoming more widely used in High Energy Physics. GEMs offer an excellent spatial resolution and a high particle rate capability, with a close to 100% detection efficiency. In view of the high luminosity phase of the CERN Large Hadron Collider, these aforementioned features make GEMs suitabl...
